The children learnt Spanish so that they would know the language of their father’s family in Guatemala.

Daniel (age 16), Ben (age 14) and Andy (age 3) with their practise and dad, Terri and Luis.

Like many families today, Luis and Terri came from different cultural traditions. Because Terri’s extended family speaks German and Luis’ family in Guatemala speaks Spanish, they recognised the importance of learning languages from the earliest age.

Having used MUZZY to teach her children German to facilitate communication with their German relatives, Terri’s sister was quick to recommend MUZZY to Terri to introduce her boys to a second language. As a result, when Luis and Terri’s sons were toddlers, they each began MUZZY Spanish to learn the language of their great grandmother and family.

Terri reports proudly, “It was important to Luis that when we took the children back to his home in Guatemala, they be able to speak to his family and grandmother, who speak little or no English. And they did!”

In secondary school, Ben told Terri, “I seem to know a lot more words and have a much easier time with languages than the other kids.” Ben’s pronunciation is great and thanks to MUZZY, he is also at the top of his class.

The youngest child, Andy, already has a broad Spanish vocabulary at only age 3. MUZZY is his favourite tv programme, and his parents use it as a reward. Little Andy doesn’t watch MUZZY alone. “Even now, Ben will watch MUZZY with Andy,” says Terri. “Ben uses MUZZY for language reinforcement and pronunciation. I studied Spanish over 20 years ago in college so when I put on MUZZY Spanish Level II while doing things around the house, it refreshes my Spanish.”
